Rabat, 2 July 2026 – The Moroccan Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security (AMSSNuR) convened a meeting of its Scientific Committee at its headquarters in Rabat. The session was opened in the presence of Mr. Saïd MOULINE, Director General of AMSSNuR.

Established by the Agency’s Board of Directors, the Scientific Committee is, alongside the Audit Committee, one of AMSSNuR’s advisory governance bodies. It provides independent scientific and technical expertise to support the Agency’s strategic decision-making, particularly in the areas of nuclear safety, nuclear security, radiation protection, education and training.

The meeting was primarily devoted to the examination of the draft Charter of the Approval Committee established under Decree No. 2-23-1192 governing the procedures for the approval of technical organizations operating in the field of protection against ionizing radiation. The draft Charter defines the Committee’s composition, organization and operating procedures, as well as the arrangements governing the issuance of advisory opinions on applications for the approval of technical organizations providing specialized radiation protection services. These organizations are intended to support authorization holders in fulfilling their obligations relating to nuclear safety, nuclear security and radiation protection, in accordance with the applicable legislative and regulatory framework.

The Scientific Committee also reviewed progress made on the draft decree governing the medical use of ionizing radiation. This important regulatory instrument is intended to strengthen the national framework governing medical practices involving ionizing radiation, taking into account the continuous advances in diagnostic and therapeutic applications and the need to ensure the highest standards of patient, worker and public protection.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Scientific Committee reaffirmed its full commitment to supporting AMSSNuR in the finalization of these two major regulatory initiatives. Their adoption will further strengthen Morocco’s national framework for nuclear safety, nuclear security and radiation protection, while contributing to the continuous improvement of the quality and safety of practices involving ionizing radiation throughout the Kingdom.
