AMSSNuR concludes the IAEA International Workshop on the Security of Radioactive Material Transport

Rabat, 9 July 2026 – The Training Centre of the Moroccan Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security (CFA-AMSSNuR) concluded, on 9 July 2026, the International Workshop on Security Planning for the Transport of Radioactive Material, jointly organized with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from 6 to 9 July 2026.
A closing ceremony highlighting international cooperation
The closing ceremony was chaired by Mr. Saïd MOULINE, Director General of AMSSNuR, accompanied by Mr. Reda NOUR, Secretary General of the Agency. Bringing together around thirty participants from seventeen countries—including Belgium, Botswana, Costa Rica, Côte d’Ivoire, Indonesia, Jamaica, Libya, Namibia, the Philippines, South Africa, Thailand, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the United States—the ceremony marked the successful conclusion of four days of technical exchanges and capacity-building activities.
On this occasion, Mr. MOULINE commended the commitment and active participation demonstrated by all attendees throughout the workshop. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in promoting the exchange of experience, strengthening professional competencies, and fostering a shared culture of nuclear and radiological safety and security at both the national and international levels.
Hosting this workshop further illustrates AMSSNuR’s role as an IAEA Collaborating Centre for Capacity Building in Nuclear Security. This designation reflects the confidence placed by the international community in Morocco’s expertise and reaffirms the Kingdom’s position as a recognized partner in developing human resources and promoting international good practices in nuclear security.
The Training Centre: A space for Capacity Building
The workshop was held entirely at the AMSSNuR Training Centre (CFA-AMSSNuR), further confirming its role as a leading platform for developing nuclear and radiological competencies at the national, regional, and international levels. By hosting this event, the Centre once again demonstrated its ability to provide a dynamic environment for the exchange of knowledge, experience, and good practices, enabling participants to compare their national approaches with the international standards and guidance promoted by the IAEA.
Throughout the four-day programme, participants engaged in a combination of technical presentations, case studies, practical exercises, and a technical visit to a radiopharmaceutical production facility, ensuring that the knowledge acquired was firmly anchored in operational practice.
Addressing a global challenge requiring constant vigilance
The transport of radioactive material represents a major global activity, with more than 15 million shipments carried out each year in support of medicine, industry, scientific research, agriculture, and electricity generation. This extensive activity requires competent authorities to maintain robust regulatory frameworks while continuously anticipating and addressing the risks and vulnerabilities associated with the secure transport of radioactive material.
By concluding this workshop, AMSSNuR reaffirms its position as a leading institution in strengthening capacities in nuclear and radiological safety and security at both the national and international levels. Through its dual role as an IAEA Collaborating Centre for Capacity Building in Nuclear Security and as a dedicated Training Centre (CFA-AMSSNuR), the Agency further demonstrates the international recognition earned by Morocco’s nuclear and radiological safety and security framework and its continued commitment to supporting global efforts in this field.
