Every operator of an establishment generating liquid radioactive effluent is required to submit an application for authorization to discharge radioactive effluent into the environment through AMSSNuR.
Any transfer of radioactive waste to the centralized waste management facility, which is under the control of the National Centre for Energy, Science, and Technology (CNESTEN), is subject to AMSSNuR’s authorization.
AMSSNuR conducts inspection visits to facilities with a radiological impact on the environment. The purpose of these visits is to verify the compliance of the measures taken by the operator with regard to environmental protection.
The operators of activities and facilities generating radioactive waste and effluent shall periodically send to AMSSNuR the results of measurements in the environment and the results of analyses carried out on the releases made.
AMSSNuR has drawn up a preliminary draft strategy for radiological monitoring of the environment, which sets out the approach to be adopted and the mechanisms for cooperation with the various interested parties.
AMSSNuR acquired five stations for measuring environmental contamination in the last quarter of 2019. These facilities will be networked and remotely accessible. They will disclose the level of radioactivity in real time at each station.
